Whether you are a complete beginner or seasoned competitor, BALLADS is the dance society for you!
Our friendly and welcoming society is open to all levels of dancer (and the aspiring dancer) in the heart of St Andrews. Join the BALLADS family to explore your next Ballroom and Latin dancing adventure!
NOVICE AND INTERMEDIATE DANCE
We offer classes for dancers with more experience in both Ballroom and Latin. These popular classes are for Novice and Intermediate dancers, and are generally focused on training dancers for Inter-Varsity (IVDA) dance competitions across the UK.
BEGINNER DANCE
BALLADS has a fantastic network of beginner dancers and aims to cater for both social and competitive beginners. We offer relaxed, fun and interactive classes led by top-quality teachers for an enjoyable yet productive atmosphere.
PRACTICE SPACE
At BALLADS we understand the importance of practising with your partner outside of usual class times. We offer regular practice spaces to cater for our growing competition team and those wanting some extra time to dance.
WORKSHOPS
BALLADS is proud to offer workshops with top professionals in both Ballroom and Latin. Our workshops are held throughout the year, with a focus on pre-competition training. These are typically 3-4 hour sessions with the opportunity for additional private lessons as well.

MONDAYS

19:30 - 20:30 Beginner Ballroom Class
20:30 - 21:30 Beginner Latin Class

In these classes, we'll be teaching moves from all 10 Ballroom and Latin dances! Come along to this class for the opportunity to learn some fun dances and meet new people.
WEDNESDAYS

18:30 - 19:30 Novice Ballroom Technique Class
19:30 - 20:30 Novice Latin Technique Class
20:30 - 21:30 Pre-intermediate and above Technique Class

Our technique classes are split into different levels, and we will go over the technique for the four core dances: waltz, quickstep, cha-cha and jive.
​
September-May: Periodic Workshops at weekends (as announced on social media and by email)
Membership
​
With membership, all classes have money off and members can opt for semester class packages which include all classes. You can also be added to our members Facebook group and chat so just drop us a message if we haven't added you already! You buy a full-year membership or a semester membership from the union website. You can pay in cash for the semester and full-year membership.

CHLOE
PRESIDENT 2023-2024
As the President of BALLADS Chloe is responsible for running the society and creating a fun, safe and friendly environment. Chloe was the 2022-2023 President and the 2021-22 Social Rep for BALLADS and has been a member of the society since 2020.

ZSUZSI
VICE PRESIDENT 2023-2024
As Vice-president Zsuzsi will assist the President to make sure the society is running smoothly. Zsuzsi joined Ballads in 2020 and was the Head of Events for BALLADS 2021-22 and Vice-president for 2022-2023.

TREASURER 2023-2024
As Treasurer Katy is responsible for handling our finances for the year. This is the third year Katy has taken on this position after joining BALLADS in 2020.

JOHHNY
TEAM CAPTAIN 2023-2024
As Team Captain, Johnny will be coordinating the competition team's trips to Intervarsity and Dancesport Scotland competitions across the country. Johhny was the Team Captain 2021-2022 and has been a member of BALLADS since 2017.

JONAH
VICE TEAM CAPTAIN 2023-2024
As the vice team captain of BALLADS Jonah will assist the Team Captain in coordinating the competition team's trips to nationwide competitions. Jonah has been a member of BALLADS since 2022.

As Head of Events, Emilia is in charge of planning out our big events of the year such as our annual Strictly Come Dancing performance and Tea Dance. Emilia joined the society in 2023.

SOCIAL REPRESENTATIVE 2023-2024
As the Social Rep, Rosie is in charge of arranging get togethers such as nights out, beach days, and Strictly Come Dancing viewing nights. Rosie joined the society in 2021 and was Head of Events for BALLADS 2022-2023.

PUBLICITY OFFICER 2023-2024
As the publicity officer of BALLADS Louise is in charge of maintaining the society's social media and email. Louise joined BALLADS in 2021.
